 /  Atalaya Mining Plc misinforms the London Stock Exchange

One of the main environmental Spanish NGOs, Ecologistas en Acción, has warned that Atalaya Mining Plc, the company operating Riotinto copper mine in Spain, has mislead its shareholders by announcing the end of the legal suit challenging the legality of Riotinto environmental authorisation and by stating that the Spanish authorities have given a final resolution validating such authorisation.

A report by environmental group Ecologistas en Acción (Environmentalists in Action), Effect of the COVID-19 crisis on urban air quality in Spain, states that the drastic reduction in traffic is translating into an unprecedented improvement in air quality, which is currrently far below legal limits and WHO recommendations.

Seas At Risk calls on ISA member countries to rethink their support for deep sea mining in light of the UNEP-IRP’s findings and recommendations.
